A new project from a friend and me for 2016 — the Cross-cutting Culture Podcast!
So…what does that title mean? Cross-Cutting is a film-editing technique to show simultaneous action in multiple locations. For us, we see this carrying two meanings.
The first is simply this: when we observe any element of culture, we want to have simultaneous action on our part. No passive viewing or listening allowed. If we see a film, we want to think through the messages, themes, and impact of the film. What is the film saying? What message is conveyed? Why does this resonate with people?
The second meaning is the obvious wordplay here. Where does the Cross cut or intersect with these elements of culture? We believe God is the Ultimate Storyteller and His story is over and above every other story we see or hear. Whether intended or not, almost any piece of culture has elements of the Gospel of Jesus Christ embedded within. Cross-cutting is our process of finding where those moments occur.
We would love for YOU to be a Cross-cutter with us. Go on iTunes to subscribe to the podcast (adding a comment and a rating would be greatly appreciated!). You can always email the show at: crosscuttingculture@mail.com.
Additionally, you can find our Cross-cutting Culture Facebook group and join the conversation there. Got an interesting theory on a film? Let us check it out. Have a question? Bring it. We want you to be on this journey with us!
Behold….our first episode! Listen in as we discuss the newest film of the Rocky franchise, Creed.
I haven’t seen the movie, but it was interesting to listen to. You have to get Jared a better mic or a better mix, it sounds like he’s in a tunnel compared to Josh.
Full disclosure, I’m a former co-worker of Jared’s. Blessings guys, keep up the good work.
Thanks for listening and thanks for the feedback! We are aware of the mic issue for him and definitely changing that. If you haven’t seen Creed, would recommend. We both enjoyed it quite a bit.
